Western Canada’s largest annual lens-based art festival, originating in 2013, is the Capture Photography Festival. It showcases art from Vancouver and the surrounding areas once or twice yearly. The Art Exhibition Program features more than a hundred visual artists, and a public-art portion of the festival showcases large-scale installations. The Capture Photography Festival also has an Events Program of events, film screenings, studio tours, and roundtable discussions on photography and photography progression.
The Festival is a place to frequently see thought-provoking art with a focus on lens-based storytelling; and by hosting galleries and events in Vancouver, it presents opportunities to help underrepresented communities. The aim is to facilitate an exchange between artists, curators, and audiences to promote meaningful dialogue and global solidarity.
