Through May 31, as a part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, Lonsdale Gallery in Toronto is presenting the exhibition Crossroads. In the Main Gallery is photography by Hua Jin, a Montreal-based photo, video, installation and performance artist. Taken with a large-format camera and digitally manipulated, these images examine patterns, location and repetition in urban centres and in nature. In the Upper Gallery is a series of wet-plate collodion portraits by Calgary-based photographer Kevin J. Mellis. There is also a salon-style installation of work by other artists exploring the range of traditional and modern approaches to analogue photography.
If you’d like to learn more about the wet-plate collodion process, check out the article on it in our February/March 2015 issue. Subscribers can read it in the digital archives.
