Capture Photography Festival will take place from October 1 through November 15 in Vancouver. With over 50 exhibitions of local, international and emerging artists, this festival will be Vancouver’s first city-wide photography festival.
Scheduled events include artist and curator talks, panel discussions, book launches, public art sites, films on photography, Canada Line photography installations, and five Pattison billboards of images from Edward Burtynsky’s Water. On October 8, Burtynsky will speaking at Langara College, with a book signing following. More information and tickets available here. On October 10, Capture and Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) will present a screening of Ed Burtynsky and Jennifer Baichwal’s film Watermark. Tickets available on the VIFF website.
The winner of the Capture in Transit Competition is Jamie Dolinko of Vancouver, B.C., and the two runners-up are Katayoon Yousefbigloo and Emile Rubino. Dolinko’s work will be displayed large-scale at the King Edward station on the Canada Line. In addition, Capture has partnered with the Georgia Straight for the Georgia Straight People’s Choice Award for the Capture in Transit Competition. The public will be able to vote for their favorite images on Straight.com between October 2 and November 10. The winner will be announced at the closing party of November 14.
