(source: The Oshawa Express By Jennifer Weymark/Archivist) Over the past two years we have begun revisiting the history of the homes and the families that are the heart of the Oshawa Community Museum. This process has led us to basically rewriting the history of Henry House and the role the Henry family played in the construction of the home. This process has also led us to taking a more critical look at the “generally accepted” history of our site.
Concern was raised that some of the photographs of the children of Thomas Henry may not actually be his children but could perhaps actually be his grandchildren. Photography was still a fairly new technology during the 1850s and ‘60s and we began to wonder if perhaps it was just too new to have been available for the Henry’s when the children were still young.
