Barbara Cole says her inspiration has always come from the distortion of the figure. Her work over the years has explored that in different ways: in the 80s, she used a flexible Plexiglas mirror; in the 90s, an SX 70 Polaroid; and in the years since then, water.

Gorgeous photos from her four underwater series are now in a new 110-page hardcover book. For those of you in Montreal, Cole will be at Galerie LeRoyer on June 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. for the book launch and opening of an exhibition of her work at the gallery. The exhibition will run through July 20. For anyone around Toronto, Cole will be at a book signing event at Bau-Xi Photo on June 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
