Vivian Maier‘s street photography was discovered in 2007, when the contents of her storage locker were auctioned off after her death because of delinquent payments. A box of her negatives were bought at an auction in Chicago by John Maloof. Maloof was shocked to see the quality of the work of this unknown photographer who worked as a nanny and took photos as a hobby, never sharing her work with anyone. He has been archiving her images and bringing them the attention they deserve. The collection is full of amazing photos, and there are even more yet to be archived and cataloged. A book entitled Vivian Maier: Street Photographer was published in November by Powerhouse Books.
