Toronto’s Stephen Bulger Gallery will present Joseph Hartman‘s first solo exhibition at the gallery from November 3 to 26, 2011. The Road North features work from Hartman’s two recent series Highway 69 and Collins and Heron Bay.
Highway 69 explores the relationship between people and landscape, especially in regards to the highway expansion project. Highway 69 leads to the communities of Collins and Heron Bay, where Hartman spent the first three years of his life. Thirty years after having left this area, Hartman returned to see if the images in his memory from those early years corresponded to real places or if the images in his mind were created from having heard family stories over the years. Hartman’s journey resulted in the collection, Collins and Heron Bay.
The reception for The Road North will be at the gallery on Saturday, November 5, from 2 to 5 pm, with the artist in attendance.
